With the summer flat season drawing to a close, the final of the flat racing festivals of the year is kicking off as the Ayr Gold Cup meeting is next up on the calendar.
The action in Scotland kicks off on Thursday with a one-mile novice stakes at 1:50 and concludes with a 1m5f Handicap at 5:50.
Our team have taken a look through the opening day’s card in hope of pinning down some value across the contests.
Here are three selections to consider for the first day of the Ayr Gold Cup Festival.
GLENGARRY – 2:25 Ayr (12/1 – bet365)
Hailing from Danny Brooke’s yard, Danny Brooke could be of some interest in a 7f Handicap.
The gelding has produced some promising efforts for his connections in recent months, striking over seven furlongs and a mile.
The quicker ground will suit him and he looks at a workable mark, with his price of 12/1 holding some each-way value at least.
HAJJAM – 3:00 Ayr (8/1 – bet365)
Under the guidance of Liam Bailey, Hajjam could be one to note in the 1m Handicap.
The Paco Boy gelding remains at the same mark after two decent efforts over seven furlongs, placing at both Doncaster and Musselburgh.
The seven-year-old does hold C&D form and he could strike again here, with his price of 8/1 holding some interest.
NICHOLAS T – 4:45 Ayr (10/1 – William Hill)
Another C&D distance winner, Nicholas T could appreciate the drop back down to 1m2f in the Kilkerran Cup.
The nine-year-old has a whopping seven victories under his belt at Ayr, including three successes over the distance for Jim Goldie.
He still looks at a decent mark and his price of 10/1 looks huge value in this company.
