The fourth race that is planned to run for the August Afternoon Racing meeting at Kempton Park Racecourse this summer is The Novice Stakes (Div 2) Flat Race.

The Afternoon Racing meeting, held at Kempton Park Racecourse in August, has an exciting eight-race schedule that includes such highlights as The Nursery, The Class 3 Handicap Flat Race, and two divisions of The Novice Stakes.

Kempton Park Racecourse, home of the Afternoon Racing as well as other prestigious meetings such as The September Stakes, Jump Sunday, and The Christmas Festival, is positioned just inside Surrey on the Greater London border, making it convenient for the tens of thousands of horse racing fans who live in London, Surrey, and neighbouring areas to watch live horse racing at a world-class venue.

About The Race

The Novice Stakes (Div 2) Flat Race is a Class 5 flat race for novices that serves as the fourth race of the August Afternoon Racing meeting at Kempton Park Racecourse every summer.

Open to horses aged three years old and above, The Novice Stakes (Div 2) Flat Race runs 1 mile of Kempton Park Racecourse and featured nine runners last time out.

Just like the division 1 edition of the race, The Novice Stakes (Div 2) Flat Race offered a prize pool worth £6,000 at its most recent running, which was split between the first four finishers in the following fashion:

1st place – 3/1 Magical Rhythms (USA) – £3,881

2nd place – 2/1 Mayne (IRE) – £1,155

3rd place – 9/2 Knockacullion (USA) – £577

4th place – 20/1 Al Moataz (IRE) – £289

2018

During the August Afternoon Racing meeting at Kempton Park Racecourse in 2018, The Novice Stakes Flat Race was run as a single race as opposed to the two seperate divisions.

The Novice Stakes Flat Race was won by 6/4 priced race favourite Enzemble, ridden by jockey Gerald Mosse and trained by David Elsworth.

12/1 priced Kings Highway finished just half a length behind Enzemble in second place, followed by 5/1 priced third-favourite Normal Norman in third place and 20/1 priced Equidae in fourth.

2017

The Novice Stakes (Div 2) Flat Race did not take place during the August Afternoon Racing meeting in 2017, instead, the fourth race to run on the day was The Class 5 Handicap Flat Race. This race was won by 25/1 priced outsider Bluff Crag, ridden by jockey Finley Marsh and trained by Richard Hughes.

7/2 priced second-favourite Dangerous Ends finished a length and a half behind Bluff Crag in second place, followed by 25/1 priced outsider Mezmaar in third place and 3/1 priced race favourite Anna Medici in fourth.
