The second race that takes place at Kempton Park Racecourse for the August Evening Racing meeting every year is The Novice Stakes Flat Race.

The first of three August Evening Racing meetings, which features the Class 3 Fillies’ Novice Stakes and The EBF Novice Stakes, is a spectacular occasion that generally takes place on the first or second Wednesday of August each season, depending on surrounding fixture dates.

About The Race

The Novice Stakes Flat Race is a Class 4 flat race for novices that serves as the second race of the August Evening Racing meeting at Kempton Park Racecourse every summer.

Exclusively open to horses aged just three years old, The Novice Stakes Flat Race runs exactly 1 mile of Kempton Park Racecourse and featured 13 runners last time out.

The young horses and their jockeys fought for a share of a £10,000 race purse last time out, which was split proportionately between the first four horses to cross the finish line as follows:

1st place – 4/11 Dubai Warrior (GB) – £6,469

2nd place – 7/1 Muhaarar’s Nephew (GB) – £1,925

3rd place – 10/1 Khabeerah (GB) – £962

4th place – 10/1 Qatar Queen (IRE) – £481

At Kempton Park’s first of three August Evening Racing meetings in 2018, The Novice Stakes Flat Race was split into two seperate divisions. The winner of the division 1 edition was 6/4 priced race favourite Maaward, ridden by jockey Andrea Atzeni and trained by Richard Hannon.

4/1 priced joint second-favourite Acclafrith finished six lengths behind Maaward in second place, followed by equally priced Blame Culture in third place and 16/1 priced Bhodi in fourth.

2017

Ridden by jockey James Doyle and trained by Jeremy Noseda, 15/8 priced race favourite Jus Pires finished first in The Novice Stakes Flat Race at Kempton Park Racecourse in 2017.

14/1 priced Zain Star finished just a head behind Jus Pires in second place, followed by 9/2 priced third-favourite Harvest Wind in third place and 3/1 priced second-favourite Ancient Foe in fourth.
