Roger Varian’s Valyrian Style returned to winning ways at Kempton Park on Wednesday evening under Jack Mitchell, despite passing the post second.
The 6-4 favourite won his first two career starts last season but arrived at the Sunbury-on-Thames track with a point to prove after his Epsom Downs disappointment back in April.
After going tooth-and-nail with Protected Guest in the straight, in which the subsequent winner’s rival bumped Mitchell’s charge in the closing stages, the stewards awarded the contest in favour of the son of Frankel.
Earlier in the card, previous Doncaster successor Tahitian Prince secured his second career victory for Richard Hannon after holding off Bonneval and James Doyle by a head, while Hollie Doyle steered the Archie Watson trained Super Over to a maiden win from stall one.
Andrew Balding’s two-year-old debutant Sandrine got off to the perfect start under David Probert, while Caspian Queen, Liva and Willyorwon’t He all claimed glory in Surrey.
Action at Kempton Park concluded for the month this week, with the next race fixture taking place on Wednesday 2nd June.
